The Institute of the Americas is located on campus at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Below is a brief description of UCSD and of two distinct centers housed within the Institute of the Americas Complex. The Institute of the Americas and the Center for U.S. Mexican Studies share a building.

While the Institute is an independent, private non-profit, its two neighbors: The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, and the Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies, are university academic and research centers. In addition to their core functions, each center offers numerous speakers programs, exhibitions, films, and other events that are open to the public. Please check the relevant websites for more information.

The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies is a campuswide research unit of the University of California, San Diego. With the support of UCSD’s Office of Research and the University of California Office of the President, the Center has become the premier institute for social science research on Mexico and U.S.-Mexican relations in the United States. The Center participates in and promotes multidisciplinary research relevant to current policy issues in Mexico and to the binational relationship in close collaboration with scientists at Mexican institutions. In addition, most of the Center's research involves comparative studies with a substantial Mexico component.
