The Geopolitics of Energy


Active Image Timed to coincide with the Institute of the Americas 17th annual La Jolla Energy conference, this seminar will offer participants an opportunity to engage and debate with leading figures in the Latin American and global energy scenes.

The seminar will culminate with participants attending the two-day
La Jolla Conference, which in recent years has attracted the ministers of energy of Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia as well as senior industry executives, government officials, independent analysts and NGO representatives. In addition to the La Jolla Conference, seminar attendees will participate in four days of specially designed lectures that will discuss, among other topics: The Global energy picture – where the resources are, how they are being exploited, how the market works, the increasing importance of major new consumer nations, and the role of national energy policies in determining international relations; The Latin American energy scene - production, politics, pricing, environmental, indigenous and social concerns, and regional integration; Biofuels, climate change and renewable energy – the economics, politics and science of climate change, renewable energy and evolving
