Competitiveness is an underlying theme of our ICT meetings, as well as economic development, good governance (transparency, efficiency, responsibility) and the fostering of efficient and dynamic markets. The ICT program has held more than 40 roundtables and 10 hemispheric conferences in the Western Hemisphere. Our goal is to improve the quality of life of the people in our region.
We work closely with a host of leaders in the public and private sector: Ministries, civic and community organizations, civil society, local and multinational companies and multilateral organizations, to offer in-depth knowledge of emerging governance and technology trends in countries throughout the region.
FOCUS AREAS Digital Agenda
Information and Communication Technologies permeate all facets of our lives, from culture to the global economy. These technologies are ubiquitous in banking, manufacturing, social capital creation and government services. Recognizing this reality, the ICT program creates an environment where stakeholders can work together toward a dynamic vision that incorporates digital tools in public-private activities.
Connectivity
Affordable, high-speed Internet access is vital to productivity and economic growth. As countries in the region strive to create new jobs in the competitive 21st-century global economy, the availability of broadband connectivity takes on heightened socio-economic significance. The ICT Connectivity program focuses on how to achieve that goal by tapping experts throughout the region, encouraging collaboration between all levels of the public sector, private enterprise and civil society.
E-Government
Electronic government helps create a more effective, efficient government by empowering citizen participation, greater accountability and integrity of public officials -- all necessary ingredients for a democratic society. This ICT program promotes e-government and facilitates the sharing of information and good governing practices among local, state and federal agencies.
Regulatory and Legal Frameworks
New policy frameworks and recommendations are generated in these sessions, with the goal of strengthening competition in all market
segments. This ICT program helps participants develop coherent and
flexible approaches to the regulation of electronic communication networks and services.
Software development
Technology transfer between the public and private sectors is the focus of this program, which also looks at opportunities created by globalization for the development of outsourced products and services.
