This workshop will bring together experienced journalists from Russia, Italy, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to meet with journalists from Mexico and Central America about the dangers they face and ways to cover stories on organized crime and corruption without risking their lives. Participants will not only share experiences but will also benefit from high-level training on a broad span of issues related to journalist safety. The workshop will include information on ways to protect data from cyber attacks and focus on the role of digital journalism and social media in violent environments. As a result, journalists will be better prepared to work in dangerous environments and can better serve the interests of society by reporting on the organized crime and corruption that are damaging democratic systems in their countries.
