Thomas A. Shannon is the chief policy maker
for this hemisphere in the Department of State.
He is deeply involved in the issues that most concern the United States in its relations with Mexico and Latin America such as trade, security, immigration, narcotics, the future of democracy.
He was confirmed to his current post on October 7, 2005. Prior to that, he served in US embassies overseas and as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the National Security Council.
