Date: July 22, 2013
Time: 12:30
Location: Deutz Room

Dr. Frances ColonThe Institute of the Americas is delighted to host an executive lunch with Dr. Frances Colón. Dr. Frances Colón is the Deputy Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State at the U.S. Department of State where she promotes Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) dialogues; global scientific engagement for capacity-building, development and public diplomacy; S&T fellowships; women in science; and transformational technologies as tools of science diplomacy.

The Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary (STAS) provides scientific and technical advice and resources to bureaus and offices at the U.S. Department of State, building upon the Secretary of State’s emphasis on utilizing smart power, economic statecraft, and whole-of-society approaches. The 2010 Department of State Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review stressed that in a world of increasingly fast-paced change, “science and technology must be enlisted in an unprecedented fashion.”

Join us for this executive lunch session, which will focus on the important role that The Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary plays in the promotion of scientific and technological initiatives in research institutions and universities. This is a must attend forum for those interested in international relations, science, technology, and diplomacy.
