SENTRI at 20 ENVISION 2020

SENTRI at 20

SENTRI has been essential to the economic growth and viability of our bi-national region.

By 2020, the demand on the SENTRI program will be intense and a new, more efficient border crossing mechanism will be needed. Anticipating this need, UC San Diego is again taking the lead to develop innovative solutions to our future border challenge.

On September 22, Congresswoman Lynn Schenk, who championed the SENTRI program by carrying it through Congress and fighting for its approval, will be joined by UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep Khosla and others to spearhead the effort to find solutions. Chancellor Khosla has recruited a team of local visionaries, and technology and transportation experts —the Envision the Border Study Team— to write a White Paper which will be presented at the September 22 roundtable. The paper will provide steps that San Diego can take to lead our nation in border crossing efficiency and innovation.

The roundtable will include panel discussions that look at the challenges the SENTRI program’s supporters had to overcome, as well as the recommendations of Envision 2020. A keynote speaker will close the roundtable by discussing California’s economic future and the importance of a strong dynamic partnership with Mexico.
