Earlier this year, the San Ysidro border modernization project received a boost of more than $200 million, a boon to the improvement of infrastructure at the busiest land border crossing in the Western Hemisphere.  Inadequate infrastructure has led to delays at our ports of entry that have had a staggering effect not only on our regional economy, but also on our national economy. However, this breakthrough in federal funding for the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Modernization and Expansion Projectwill reduce wait times and allow for more efficient movement of goods and people.

Please join us for a conversation with¬†Congressman Scott Peters¬†to discuss the importance of the border to our competitiveness, both regional and national. Congressman Peters will be joined by experts from¬†SANDAGand¬†GSA¬†to discuss the local impacts of obtaining funding for border modernization. Congressman Peters will share insights on the struggles of taking the San Diego collaborative spirit to Washington D.C. in order to shape the discussions on the border and educate our nation’s lawmakers on the impacts of the border beyond the San Diego region.

Institute of the Americas’ President Ambassador Charles Shapiro will moderate.

This event is free and open to the public; however, we do ask that you register in advance to ensure adequate seating.
