This workshop focuses on the correlation between the use of controlled substances, youth violence and gang activity, as well as the impact of the sale of narcotics in supporting criminal gang operations. During the week-long program, law enforcement officials, educators, treatment professionals, community leaders and journalists will study programs designed to reduce demand. Participants will learn how gangs recruit and hold teenagers as well as discuss successful approaches in education, community action and government support to keep adolescents from being lured into the world of organized crime.
