¡Vamos a Tijuana!

Join San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante as they discuss the future of the San Diego-Tijuana metroplex.

This bi-national conversation began in May when the Mayors met at the Institute of the Americas. Now we are continuing the conversation in Tijuana’s Casa de Cultura. Join us as Jerry Sanders prepares to leave office and Carlos Bustamante reaches the halfway point in his term. Our mayors will provide important insights and advice for San Diego’s next mayor, for the state and federal governments of both countries, and for citizens and business leaders on both sides of the border.

• How do the two economies interact? What can the two city governments do to strengthen the region’s economy?
• What is the relationship between the high-tech San Diego economy and the increasingly high-tech maquiladora industry of Tijuana?
• How does increased border security affect the links between the two cities? What role does drug-related violence play?
• What should the next mayor of San Diego do to build on what works and to avoid what hasn’t worked?
