The Energy Reform marks the beginning of a new era in Mexico. The structural changes proposed in this Reform open the door for innovation in the electric power industry and the accelerated expansion of a renewable energy market in Mexico. The introduction of Clean Energy Certificates as well as the creation of independent national agencies, such as the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE) tasked with overseeing the transparent and safe implementation of the law, including the open and non-discriminatory access to the national transmission grid, and consequently opening the door for new players to work and compete with the state-controlled Federal Electricity Commission in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity. This, in addition to the ambitious 35% clean energy production goals by 2024 set by Mexico´s Energy Ministry, create today what is perhaps the most competitive and attractive energy market in Latin America.

Please join us for a presentation by Jonathan Pinzon, Chief Operating Officer and Principal Energy Consultant at GreenMomentum Inc., a Mexico-based cleantech and renewable energy market intelligence firm. Mr. Pinzon is an expert in Mexico´s energy sector and co-author of the recently released report on “Renewable Energy in Mexico´s Border Region”, a collaboration between GreenMomentum and the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Pinzon’s presentation will be followed by a brief panel and question and answer session led by Institute of the Americas Energy Program Director Jeremy Martin and Energy Policy Associate Alexis Arthur, author of an Institute of the Americas report “Redefining Renewable Energy in Mexico.”
