Institute of the Americas (IOA) 

For over 35 years, the IOA, a non-profit organization, has been delivering targeted, hands-on programs across the Americas.  It convenes and links public and private sectors leaders, thought leaders, teachers, students and journalists through its programs and activities which include conferences, executive roundtables, professional training workshops, student camps, seminars, podcasts and webinars.  The IOA is headquartered in La Jolla on the University of California, San Diego campus. The majority of the IOA’s programming is held in Latin America.  

IOA Life Internship 

The IOA is looking for someone to be its IOA Life Intern supporting the Life Science & Biotech Program Director.  This is a part-time position (minimum of 10 hours a week) with flexible hours (offering university credit). Intern may be asked to participate in morning and evening meetings and events as appropriate. 

The Intern will have the following responsibilities: 

  • Research potential donors and sponsors including foundations, companies and individuals
  • Research potential program partners
  • Assist with the preparation of grant applications
  • Draft communication materials for donor cultivation and solicitation 
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of marketing strategies
  • Provide logistical support for program events 
  • Assist with administrative tasks 


Internship applicants must have the following qualifications: 

  • Exceptional oral and written English language skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Internet research skills and experience with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Self-starter who can manage multiple competing tasks
  • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus, but not required

IOA Life Team Podcast Assistant

IOA Life Team Podcast Assistant

The Institute is looking for an intern to help with podcast planning and management of a new podcast we are launching.  The podcast will involve biweekly interviews with CEO, COO, Directors, C-Level executives, entrepreneurs, influencers in the Life Science and Biotech arena across the Americas. 

Primary responsibilities will be content planning and project management 


  • Overseeing podcast scheduling and episode posting; 
  • Tracking metrics, and analyzing, measuring, and providing weekly summaries; 
  • Monitoring social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and posts to coordinate with guests;  
  • Reach out to industry and thought leaders for potential collaboration, proactively pitching ideas and opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising to reach new guests and expand audience reach; and,
  • Managing workflow.  

Regularly monitor the latest trends and changes in the digital publication world to ensure we are always ahead of the curve in our knowledge and capabilities. 

Requirements:• Prior social media/content marketing experience in school or past internships 

Requirements and Qualifications:  

Demonstrated prior social media/content marketing experience in school or past internships; 

Currently studying media, marketing, business or a similar degree;  

A love for podcasts; 

Active on Instagram with a solid understanding of how engagement works; 

Timely and responsive to opportunities as they come up; and, 

Experience or understanding of podcast editing or management is preferred. 

While this is an unpaid internship, it is an excellent media project to cite on your resume for future employers.  This internship will involve at least 10 hours of work per week.  The Institute is willing to work around your class and/or job schedule as long as weekly deliverable deadlines are met.
