STEM Mexico

The Institute of the Americas Professional Workshop for Mexican STEM Instructors will be held January 29 to February 1, 2018 at CETYS University, Mexicali Campus, in Baja California, Mexico.

The Workshop for Mexican STEM Instructors, an extension of the annual professional workshop in La Jolla, California, engages high school instructors in an idea-generating program designed to promote innovative teaching techniques in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

During the one-week workshop, instructors will have hands-on laboratory experience and learn applicable teaching methods, with a primary focus on robotics, programming and coding, and innovation that make these vitally important subjects exciting and accessible to students. This unique opportunity provides instructors with advanced skill sets to further their professional development in order to instruct throughout Mexico in new creative ways that will encourage their students to become the next generation of scientists and innovators.

The instructors will be asked to develop and a deliver a presentation on new teaching methods and experiments that can be included in their own classrooms, applying what they learn during the workshop alongside the mentorship from international professors and regional Mexican college professors. During the workshop, CETYS University professors and regional college professors will facilitate dialogue throughout the week on ways that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can lead to an exciting career path for their students.
