Born in Turón, Asturias, Spain, Mr. Gutierrez has an engineering degree (Roads, Canals and Ports) from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Madrid. He also holds a Master’s degree from IESE’s Senior Business Management Program (PADE).
He began his professional life on that date in the energy sector, as an engineer in the nuclear field at Empresarios Agrupados.
In 1987 he joined the Technical Corps of the State Civil Administration where he has been Deputy Director General in the Ministries of Labor and Social Security and of Industry and Energy.
Among other positions, he has been Director of Technology and Engineering of Gas Natural Fenosa and President of its Engineering Division, Director of Soluziona, Prointec, GHESA and Empresarios Agrupados. President of the Spanish Association of Engineering and Industrial Construction Companies (TECNIBERIA), between 2000 and 2002.
Since December 2012 he has been General Director of the Spanish Energy Club. He is also President of the Agustín de Betancourt Foundation and Counselor of the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports.
